Game Day

Sunday 12.35

Del on WhatsApp “Updates please.  Oh, and I’m in A&E.  Buggered knee”

The Greys have 10.  Fletching are a very decent bunch and offer us a fielder revolving every 5 overs.

None of them are Chief, but surely there’s a downside to this?

Sunday 13.45

Louis takes new ball and does what he does, bowls with energy, pace and a nice bit of aggression.  Maiden.

Sunday 13.50

Chris takes the second over.  It’s a joy to watch.  Nagging, nagging, nagging lengths.  On  a hot day applying intelligent pressure, and that’s what he does.

Louis gets a deserved wicket in his second over.  This fella is only gonna get better and better, no doubt.  At the other end Chris isn’t getting any justice at all.  It’s a strange wicket,  bowls straight nad  it tends to play true, but offer width and strange things happen.  Exaggerated bounce but slow and hard time.  It’s a facking hot day and I’m still in a party haze of my own making.  There had been some riveting chat earlier on WhatsApp about record attempts for Greys matches.  Fletching are 60 odd off 14 for 2 with Louis taking both.  Dom bowls first change NGL is really on his game.  Watching him bowl is a pleasure.  Strangling the opposition and making my job as first change at the other end much easier.  I get a wicket off my first over thanks to Chiefy 2.0 (Merrick).  Thanks young man.  Chiefy 3.0, Richy L, does a much more passable impression of Chief/Max Sennett as he runs around under a catch.  I manage to get another wicket thanks to the best catch a Greysman will probably take this year as Dom gets under a huge skyer, makes excellent ground and snaffles it.  How this didn’t win PSM is beyond me but bud, I did nom it.  I get another 2, 1 the old cutter to bowl the hard hitting Osler-Hilt and to also be a bit shouty about it,this somehow wins PSM. Although he did relay to his team mates it was the vagaries of the wicket – cheeky sausage.  Terry again went wicketless, it’s as if he only needs one wicket to reach a milestone, or sumfink.  Skip pitched up with the other wicket taken.

Sunday 16.22

Tea taken.  Fletching 174 for 8 off 35.

To be entirely honest I didn’t like the omens in the changing room before we resumed play.  Biff “You ok to take the first ball Rich?”

Rich “I can’t, I’ve got a serious aversion.  I’ve gotta get over it”

Sunday 17.00

Inning begins

Greys WhatsApp 17.42

Greys WhatsApp 18.18

Greys WhatsApp 16.37

Greys WhatsApp 16.42

Alex Mob “Too late to ask for last man standing?”

Greys WhatsApp 18.45

Chris F “Don’t want to jinx it”

Greys WhatsApp 18.58

Duncan Edwards “Just lost”

Highlights?

Not many really.  A couple of decent 4’s from Dom, Chris, Double.  Me edging a drive into Fletching’s skipper’s hooter causing a pool of claret.

The pitch played as it had all day, yet too many of us did not learn and contributed to our own downfall.

Sunday 22.48

John St  Brighton

Double “So Robbie mate, tour is always better when you’re with us”

Rob “Yeah, I’m certainly not ruling it out”

Statto’s report
Bank holiday stats and wow it’s hot…and it doesn’t seem to agree with the wilting Greys as we post our second loss of the season.
In the stats not a lot of movement at the top of the batting with Dom staying put. In the bowling DD continues to crush the opposition – man against boys. The catching is heating up nicely with 4 all on 3.
Not a lot to report in the lifetime…will The Shadow ever get that 300th wicket…will Biff get to 10,000 runs first???
Next week we’re off Goring… Why would we want to do that??? I hear you exclaim in unison…cos that’s where the Pathfinders live…
