On a lovely July afternoon TMG’s headed to the foot of the downs to take on Streat who were as ever skippered by Saga magazines hunk of the month Stan . With TMG’s being put into bat a brief flurry of boundaries from Jerry was followed by slow yet steady progress as wickets fell as batsmen got in and then ,well , got out . The exception to this rule was skipper Biff “I’m not Bish” Line who held the innings together while entertaining the crowd with a fist pumping celebration on hitting his first boundary from his 58th ball faced . Eventually falling for a gritty 51 this was an openers job well done . Alex and Dave ensured a competitive total of 213 for 7 was achieved with 34 and 20 respectively; also very helpful was a wicketkeeper who appeared to be blind/disabled (delete where applicable) with byes adding 31.
In reply Streat never really got going due to the impressive opening pairing of Dave (1-16) and Rob (3-19) with the latter, still smarting from the “gentle ” ribbing over his bowling average for the season , accounting for the top 3 with the first wicket being a genuine edge athletically caught by Jerry behind the stumps .There followed a -rare- masterclass in catching from TMG’s with Jerry adding 2 more , Alan catching Streat dangerman Barrs nonchalantly at cover, Biff another 2 and Ian “hes back and he wants your money” Sewell another.
Streat never recovered from their early losses and further good bowling from Ib (1-17) Alex (3-29) and a fully inflated Rich (2-14) ensured a comfortable win with Streat being bowled our for 139.
