T.M.G V Streat July 2012
250 Up!
T.M.G bandwagon rolled onto Streat on a beautiful summers afternoon fresh from their maiden victory over Lindfield the previous week. Sprits were high and after Biff won the toss and electing to bat we were away. Both openers have batted well this season in very difficult conditions and today was no exception. Jerry was particularly harsh on anything too full or short and skip grafting like a Polish fruit picker. Skip was first to go in the 13th over for a dogged 11 but 42 was on the scoreboard so job done! Terry,Alex and Alan all batted very nicely scoring 20, 28 and 22 respectively while at the other end Jerrymeister reach another 50. It must be difficult for Jerry to reach that land mark as often as he does as it means he has to purchase a jug back at base camp but it means that its nice for us to see him at the bar once in a while and keeps him in a play off position for the Greys rich list. Anyway I digress. With only a few overs til tea we were a few runs short of a really competitive total. Dave can usually help with a bit of quick scoring and with his old oppo Rob with his new found batting confidence put on 20 in the last couple of overs highlight another 6 from Rob on one knee, stylish which is not something you can usually accuse Rob of! Tea was taken in the still baking sun and after a quick team talk from skip we were under ways. Dave on 249 career wickets for the Greys was hoping that he would not have a long wait for the 250. Little did he know that in ex skipper and living(??) legend Terry that his little nugett of advice would have such immediate effect. “Bowl him the yorker”which he duly did and hey presto the milestone was reached. Much love was felt and that’s without the aid of a ninja turtle! Rob bowled with his usual skill and guile but for once this season ended wicketless, Dave finished with a pair. In fact Biff used 9 bowlers in total but only three more wickets fell. Streat were 22 runs shorts at end of play so a draw it was. If this scribe who being a fan of boxing was scoring the game I’d have said greys on points, but its not boxing is it????
