TMGs vs Steyning Rebels on 14th August 2022 by Clunky Cheekbones.

Conditions: Very dry ground, overcast and muggy day in the woods

Location: Cricket Ground Stage at One Love festival

Set List

Steyning Rebels Innings

1st Wicket – opener gloved behind for Joe’s 1st catch. Bob Marley – One Glove

2nd wicket – one handed catch by Clunk (PSM). Delroy Wilson – Caught you red-handed

3rd wicket – opener bowled by Robbie

4th Wicket – caught behind off Robbie

Isherwood came in and steadied the innings and supported the young incoming Batt (Tenor Saw – Ring the alarm) who smashed the ball and Clunk face around. He was dropped by Clunk as the ball burst through his hands and smashed his beautiful cheekbones. Play stopped for Clunk to be helped from the field with blood running down his face and a scramble to find some ice.

Finally Batt fell caught behind for 82 off some devilish Ashton off-spin. Lord Kitchener – Sugar Bum Bum

Total of 176 to beat.

BYO tea – surprise as to the number of Greysmen with ice packs.

The ball sails over the cover boundary for 6 as Jerry finally manages to get bat on a ball from the young fast bowler! It’s only taken until G Batt’s 6th over.
Jerry re-enacts the shot as if it was the first time rather than the 18th he’d attempted it. The Melodians – Swing and Dine

That 6 appeared to destroy the confidence of the young bowler despite having been unplayable for most of the day and his following over sprayed all over and went for 16 byes. Although this helped TMGs reach our target, it robbed Jerry and Clunk from getting their 50 and 100 respectively. Jerry spent a lot of the innings watching as Clunk smashed the ball about – he even found himself gazing admiringly at his own lofted straight drive over the bowler’s head and didn’t bother running despite two fielders bearing down to stop the ball reaching the boundary.

Clunk holes out for 90 with the score at 173 trying to hit a six to win the game The Pioneers – Long shot kick de bucket

Jerry and Greys’ new boy Joe knocking off the final 4 runs with Jerry finishing 2 short of his 50.

The Greys return via the Star Inn (Steyning) to HQ to rehydrate and ice Clunk’s bruised face. Susan Cadogan – Hurt so good
