On the most glorious day of the season so far, a truly bizzare game was played out between TMG’s and Bolney
Biff went out to toss with a unanamous team mandate to bowl first so as to stop them boring us to sleep by dead batting for the final twenty overs . Oh, if only we knew ……
With the toss duly won, Bolney (to be precise their skipper ) started whingeing about the quality of their attack , the latenness of a player and a torso in a ditch in other words anything to field first ; a greys mandate is a greys mandate however and the field we took with Dave and Rob opening the bowling .
Well , criket is a game beloved of statiticians and i believe only by boring you ,the reader, with many numbers and figures can I do justice to quite how boring their batting was
up to a brief flurry before and (yes i still shudder at the thought ) after tea .
batsman no.1 run out 27 in the 40th over batting 2 hours 1 minute
Rob 6 overs 1 run
50 opening stand 29 overs
we bowled 48 overs before tea and 6 after
all 11 greysmen bowled
Ibrahim 6 overs 6 runs in approx 6 minutes
100 up in the 41st over
During this marathon there were some highlights including Dels run out throw , Jerrys caught and bowled (another fine PSM winner) and Jerrys debut as wicket keeper in the post tea session as alex had rightly had enough by then . Bolney wre finally bowled out for 200 leaving us 50 minutes and 20 overs to get their total.
An excellent tea was served with scones washed down with tea , squash and last weeks cider ; hmmmmmmmm………oh and a hello for Andy L who paid a far to rare visit to a greys game.
In reply Biff set the tone by sending in Del and Tim who kept up with the rate well , Tim after breaking his duck for the season went bowled off his pads (again) quickly followed by Jerry and Biff before Terry ,yet again, steadied the ship while launching some hefty leg -and 1 supreme off and sqaure -side blows . With the fall of Del well caught in the deep off one he meant to bend left to right with a hint of top spin but which he bent right to left with a shade of fade (hints of Visage there) into the fielders hands some of the impetus was lost ; wickets continued to tumble with the valiant Greys falling “just” short bowled out for 146 with Dave playing some textbook drives and Tel ending on 39 not out .
