TMGs vs the Graces June 2009 by Jerry Brasher

On a hot and humid afternoon TMG’s played their first home game of the season at Patcham Place against The Graces who graced us with their presence from London.
Biff yet again won the toss and oh you’ve guessed it we opted to bat. A fine opening stand of 107 followed with the skip getting 40 and Jerry 57 against bowling which steadily improved as the innings went on . Highlights included a big six for Jerry’s second scoring shot , a bowler with a rather dubious action and Ricky’s eccentric umpiring .As the bowling improved runs proved harder to find and wickets fell at regular intervals until some lusty blows (Adam 24) and some breathless running (Terry sorry typo Chubby and Dave ) hoisted the score to a respectcle 195 for 7.
After a tea that  very nearly was the tea that wasn’t (congratulations to all involved) and which included a rather tasty if runny quiche the opposition went out to bat ; followed by the umpires and eventually TMG’s . Robs first over was tight and on the mark until their skipper put one foot down the track and drove the ball straight for six ; game on.
Dave and Rob both bowled well with Dave only going for 13 off his 6 overs and Rob getting the breakthrough bowling their skipper . Ibrahim kept things tight from the South end (2-19 off 8 both caught by a mono handed Alan ) and Ian getting the other opener well caught by new keeper sensation Jerry diving to his right . While their number 4 was there they always had a chance however until Ricky took revenge for being hit for a couple of sixes by bamboozling him into the thinking the sun had moved and bowled him. It was left to Tim “The Chubster” Greaves to tear through the rest taking 4-17 with the help of another great catch by Jerry behind the stumps leaving The Graces all out for 157.
Another great win for TMG’s  keeping the winning streak going for a further week.
